Purpose: The purpose of this Coach Administration page is to centralize all resources that you, a coach, will need to facilitate administrative tasks, such as incident reports, calendars, and coach forms. Please utilize the dropdown function to learn more about each resource.
Please note: this page does not house curriculums. Curriculums can be found within each program page on the site toolbar.
Boots from Pros: BFP is a unique opportunity for Poet-Athletes to receive new or lightly worn cleats from professional soccer players on the Washington Spirit and other NWSL teams. Boots From Pros was started in 2020 by Washington Spirit and US Women’s National Team player (and DC SCORES board member!) Ashley Hatch.
The goal is to not only provide our poet-athletes with high quality equipment, but to create a special bond within the soccer community among youth players and their local professional players. Each pair of shoes will include a note of advice or encouragement from the professional player. We also have opportunities for our poet-athletes to connect with the pros at our events and Washington Spirit games at Audi field. Occasionally, Washington Spirit players may be able to visit our schools and present the cleats themselves.
Poet-Athlete Eligibility: Requests are open to all Poet-Athletes. However, in an effort to continue to empower our girls and gender-expansive youth, we have set a requirement to balance requests, as you will see in the request form. Complete the Request form!

The coach compensation page will inform you about pay rate based on coaching level, stipends, and key payment dates for the season.
The Coach FAQ has answers to all of your questions about DC SCORES coaching, payment and paperwork, game days, soccer and writing.
Utilize the Community Building page to strengthen your team culture, values, and norms by empowering poet-athlete voice. You'll find activity templates, workbooks, and poet-athlete and parent/guardian "promises".
All of our coaches who are going to be at DCPS sites must complete a DCPS Volunteer Background Check (fingerprinting). If you are a DCPS teacher, you do not have to go through this process. If you are not a DCPS teacher, please see the steps below to complete the background check. This must be completed before you begin coaching! Please feel free to reach out with any questions to [email protected].
1. Fill out the DCPS Volunteer Clearance Application. It will ask you to put a DCPS school as your volunteer site; put "After School Program". If you have any questions, just email [email protected]!
2. You will be prompted to complete a TB health screening to determine if you must go in person to have a TB test completed. If it is determined that you must have one done, it must get your TB test FIRST before going to DCPS. If you have a negative TB test from the last year, then you are good to go and bring that to the DCPS office!
TB tests are offered at most doctor's offices and at a variety of clinics. DC SCORES recommends the following location:
MARC Clinic at 3326 Georgia Ave NW, Washington, DC 20010
Office Hours: 7am - 3pm M-F; Sat 7am-11am
Cost: $30
Phone: 202-722-0122
Walk-ins are fine, no appointment needed.
You must go in to get the test and then come back within 48-72 to get your results read.
3. Get your DCPS clearance.
Follow the instructions you received from DCPS and go to a FieldPrint office to get your check done.
What to bring: State issued photo ID, TB test if needed
4. Your DCPS Clearance letters will be emailed to you 5-10 business days after you get fingerprinted. Please send a copy for your file to [email protected].
Please review important emergency protocols and links on the Emergency Preparedness page. Links include: Emergency Preparedness Plan Upload Form, Incident Report Form, and OAG Guidance on Immigration Enforcement for DC Schools
Please reference the Fair Play Talk Checklist and apply it at games and practices! Our staff leads both teams in the Fair Play Talk before every competition to set a consistent standard of Fair Play. We encourage you to take these principles back to your team!
Please utilize the family engagement resources page to plan your family meeting and learn how to keep families engaged throughout the season.

Policy Reminder
All poet-athletes must wear their official New Balance DC SCORES jerseys, plus other applicable uniform items (shorts, socks, and shin guards), at DC SCORES events. This policy includes gamedays, tournaments (Frenzy, Jamboree, Cups), slams, clinics, and other events organized by DC SCORES.*
Coaches should wear a DC SCORES-branded t-shirt or long-sleeve shirt at these events. If you do not have DC SCORES-branded attire, please contact your site manager.
Teams with custom jerseys and other custom gear may wear these items for practice and during warmups at gamedays and soccer events.
Why Do We Implement This Policy?
Safety
DC SCORES staff and volunteers use our official branded gear to quickly and easily identify DC SCORES poet-athletes and coaches during emergency situations. This is particularly critical during events where members of the public may be present.
Media Consent
The DC SCORES registration form includes a media release that gives consent for DC SCORES to photograph and video poet-athletes. DC SCORES staff and media partners must not capture photos or videos of other youth present at our events. Ensuring our young people are in branded gear makes it easy to identify young people whose families have signed our media release.
Community Building
Poet-athletes are part of the same team: the DC SCORES team. The DC SCORES uniform helps to reinforce our community identity and ensure that every poet-athlete has the same high-quality gear regardless of their family’s background or financial situation. Our uniforms help to create equity and inclusivity across teams.
Partnership Compliance
New Balance provides high-quality jerseys to all 30,000 poet-athletes in the America SCORES network free of charge, while the Washington Spirit and D.C. United support DC SCORES in numerous ways throughout the season. By incorporating New Balance, Spirit, and D.C. United branding, our official uniforms recognize the power of these partnerships.
*A Note on Poetry Slams
We understand that some teams incorporate costumes into their slam performances. Teams that wish to use costumes should wear their jerseys to poetry slams. Teams may incorporate jerseys into costumes or wear costumes over their jerseys while on stage. Please note that obscuring the jerseys makes it less likely that DC SCORES and media partners will use photos and videos of teams' performances in external media, including social media, press, and other marketing.
